Arezzo rises in one of the most beautiful zones of the Tuscany, encircled from valley, hills and woods . The Valdarno, Valdichiana, ValTiberina and Casentino great valleys extend in its province. Arezzo gets its name and its foundation by the Etruschi (IV century A.C.) and perhaps it was a centre of the 12 Lucumonie Etrusche.
In Roman age it became an important military station on the Via Cassia. The town that decayed in the high Middle Age, had an economic and building resumption between IX and XII century, thanks to the power exercised from the bishops (1289). In 1098, It became free Comune and intensified the wars with Siena and Florence until, Florence inflicted a humiliating defeat in the battle of
Campaldino.
In XIV century , Arezzo lost definitively the freedom and passed under the lordship of the Medici. Only after the Unit of Italy, it found again the impulse to reaffirm its
administrative and economic importance. The town , birthplace of illustrious personages like Petrarca, Aretino and Vasari, maintains a system medieval of extreme artistic historical interest: the historical centre offers to the numerous tourists, many wonderful works of art and historical testimonies of every age.
